Nelnet Honored by United Way of Central Indiana for Breakthrough Growth in 2005 Campaign

LINCOLN, Neb., March 20, 2006 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ -- Nelnet, Inc. (NYSE: NNI) was honored by the United Way of Central Indiana (UWCI) as one of the top three 2005 Breakthrough companies for achieving breakthrough growth for three consecutive years. In 2005, Nelnet had an 81-percent increase in its average gift, and an 89-percent increase in its workplace campaign. Nelnet received this recognition at UWCI's annual meeting on Tuesday, March 14, in Indianapolis.

Indiana employees gave a total of $46,870 to United Way. In addition, Nelnet matched their employees' contribution dollar for dollar. This enabled Nelnet to increase the number of Key Club members, from two to 47 members.
