Health Education Solutions Launches Online Certification Programs for Critical Care Medical Professionals

Jun 01, 2009

New service allows convenient, flexible options for required Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support training

Lincoln, NE, June 1, 2009 - Health Education Solutions in partnership with medical faculty at Union College, a top-tier school in Lincoln, Nebraska, recently developed and launched an exclusive, interactive online course with certification and recertification exams to prepare healthcare professionals for Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications. All critical care medical professionals who initiate and direct advanced life support in medical emergencies, including doctors, physician assistants, nurses, emergency medical technicians, paramedics, family physicians and respiratory therapists, are required to be certified in ACLS and PALS standards every two years.

The new online ACLS and PALS provider courses have been created by medical instructors at Union College and are based on guidelines provided by the American Heart Association.

"With the convenience of online training and self-paced study, today's healthcare professionals can prepare for their initial and recertification exams with confidence, and in most cases can actually complete the certification process entirely online," said David King, president at Health Education Solutions. "Union College's proven success with medical-related education in nursing, physician assistant studies and pre-med placement made the campus a great partner for developing the online training curriculum."

The ACLS certification course aims to help healthcare providers improve their skills in treating adults in cardiac arrest or other cardiopulmonary emergencies. Study materials reinforce the importance of basic life support CPR to patient survival, the recognition and management of other life-threatening clinical situations, and the value of effective team interaction and communication during resuscitation.

The goal of the PALS certification course is to assist healthcare providers who work with infants and children in developing and increasing their knowledge and skills necessary to successfully manage patients in cardiopulmonary emergencies. Some of the topics covered in the course include the timely recognition and treatment of infants and children at risk for cardiopulmonary arrest, effective respiratory management, defibrillation and synchronized cardioversion, and the facilitation of effective team work in emergency situations.
